An access log is a comprehensive list of all the files that were accessed by the guests of a given site. Every file that was requested for some reason will be listed, so if you have one page with 3 embedded pictures, one video and one embedded text file, as an illustration, the access log will contain a total of 6 entries - one for every of the 6 files that were accessed when the website visitor opened the webpage. A log normally provides the file name and path, the date, in addition to the visitor’s OS, worldwide web browser and IP address. In some cases you could also find the referrer sites that sent the visitors to your website. The data that an access log file features is in human-readable plain text format. It can also be processed by special software on a laptop or computer and used to prepare reports on the overall performance of a site, independent of the web stats your server may have generated.

Access Log Manager in Web Hosting

Our custom-built Hepsia CP features a section dedicated to various logs and the access logs are one of them. As you sign in to your web hosting account and visit this section, you will find a list of all the domains and subdomains you have. All it takes to enable the generation of access logs is to click on a button that'll be available next to each and every domain/subdomain. In case the option is enabled, you'll see a download link together with the file size so far, so you'll be able to save the file to your PC and view it or process it with some program. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect instantaneously, so if you no longer need one, you could stop it with a click from the same section of the CP. You will still be able to access the already generated content by clicking on the Download link.
